Allen was captain of the Serena, a 28 foot sloop he and his crew sailed in the Atlantic from Rhode Island to Maine. He knew his way around a sailing craft and could fix anything at anchor or under sail…be it loss of all steering while in the Merrimac River or a clog in the loo during a storm… no mechanical challenge was beyond his abilities to make right. I think of him as my slightly older any way smarter brother. The first time I met Allen about 30 years ago was Christmas morning at a friend’s house. He was wearing a reindeer hat with mistletoe dangling in front of his nose. I thought… I ‘m going to like this guy. Actually I loved him and will keep him in my heart.
