It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alfred Matsko, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left this world on October 12, 2025, at the age of 86. Alfred was born on March 19, 1939, in Ashland, Pennsylvania, to Alfred Matsko and Ellen Prentice. His life journey, spanning more than eight decades, was filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Alfred’s love story began when he met his first wife, Carolyn Sue Price, at the Greenbrier Resort hotel in White Sulfur Springs, West Virginia. On November 23, 1963, they were married in McRoss, West Virginia, solidifying a bond that would last a lifetime. Their love was evident to all who knew them; they were two true lovebirds who were always meant to be together. Alfred was known for his big personality and his ability to light up a room. He was the life of the party, always making everyone laugh and feel welcome.

Alfred’s legacy lives on through his beloved daughter and only child, Laura Ann Francisco, grandson Julian Paul Matsko, Jordan James Francisco-Matsko and Juan Francisco Juan, who brought him immense joy and pride. Alfred was not only an excellent father but also a devoted family man who always ensured his family had everything they’d needed. His honesty and strong work ethic were qualities that defined him throughout his life.

In his personal life, Alfred was known for his many hobbies and interests. As a volunteer fire-fighter he sought to safeguard the community. On the side, he cherished the time spent fishing and searching for sharks teeth and seashells at the beach, where he could enjoy nature’s beauty. In his younger years, he loved roller skating until his doctor advised him to take it easy. Camping trips with family brought him great joy, and evenings spent watching TV with Carolyn were some of his most cherished moments. Alfred also enjoyed going out to eat, sharing meals and memories with those he loved.

Alfred’s character was marked by kindness and humor. He had a knack for making everyone around him feel special and valued. His friends and family described him as a funny guy and a bit of a ladies’ man, but above all, he was deeply devoted to his wife Carolyn. His ability to connect with people made him a cherished member of his community, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.

Alfred leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will endure in the hearts of his family and friends. He will be remembered not only for his vibrant spirit but also for the compassion he showed to others.

As we say our goodbyes, we take comfort in knowing that Alfred Matsko’s spirit will remain with us, shining brightly in our memories and forever holding a special place in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Alfred. You will be missed more than words can express. “If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.”
