June 20, 1956 - November 22, 2024
In lieu of a big traditional funeral, the family will be having a Celebration of Life Luncheon for Sam on Saturday, December 21st, 2024, at 1:00P.M. at 4260 Olinger Farm Road Lakeland, Florida 33810. Family and friends are cordially invited to come share in a final toast in Big Sam’s honor.
Samuel Trent Standridge, age 68, left this world peacefully on the morning of November 22, 2024, in the privacy of his own home. Samuel Trent Standridge was born on June 20th, 1956, in Polk County, Florida, the son of Wally Johnny Standridge and Ila Martha Baker. He grew up in Lakeland, where he developed a strong work ethic and love for his family. After finishing high school, he went on to pursue a career in flooring installation, to which he dedicated many years of his life.
Sam had many passions in life, including going to the family hunting camp in Sandersville, Georgia where he would jam out to golden oldies all night long around the fire. Going out bass and deep-sea fishing where he ALWAYS caught the biggest and most fish. Rocking out on stage with his band, The Po Boys, where he would dress up in the craziest attire he could find (for his fans) he said. He was known for always preparing food for an army, his love to buy and sell all kinds of goodies at his own leisure of course, and his sense of humor that would light up any room. Sam was also known for his lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and he had a knack for telling it like it is even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. He was always up to no good and very sneaky about it. He loved to have a good time and will be missed dearly by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Wanda Thompson, their 4 children Danny Ray Monroe, Jamie Monroe, Ila McBride & Sam Brown, his 9 grandchildren Josh Monroe, Leland Monroe, Trent McBride, Blake McBride, Jackson Monroe, Maximus McBride, Easton McBride, Harrison Monroe & Sawyer Brown, and his dog Buddy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ila Martha Baker and Wally Johnny Standridge, his brothers Russell, Jackie, Billy & Jake (J.W.) Standridge and his granddaughter Emmalynn Rayne Monroe. Sam will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered up at his hunting camp in Georgia and out in the ocean near his old fishing holes.
