Richard Dale Clark, 88, of Winter Haven, Fl
7-31-1933 to 7-29-2021
Richard D. Clark, was born to Ralph and Mae Clark on July 31, 1933, in St. Louis, Mo. He graduated from Ritenour Senior High School in St Louis and after serving in the Air Force for 4 years during the Korean war, he graduated from Washington University with a Business Degree.
He had a successful business career as Vice President of the Real Estate division of the Edward DeBartolo Corporation as well as Scotty’s Lumber. He served on the Polk County Transportation Board and did consulting for Auto Zone development department.
Richard was an avid athlete throughout his life and competed in many different sports. In his 60’s he pursued cycling and had quite the following in the Winter Haven/Polk community. He was loved and respected by those he cycled with as he could hold his own. At the age of 78, he was pulling groups at 20 mph, which was awesome! He was instrumental in helping younger cyclists by giving great tips and encouraging them to move up to faster groups. Since, for health reasons, he was forced to give up cycling and his beloved “spin class” at local gym, he has been missed by many wonderful friends.
Richard was married to his wife of 52 years Carole A. Clark who preceded him in death. He leaves behind his loving counterpart, Katy Jones, his 2 daughters, Mari Clark of Winter Haven, FL., Nancy Serrato and Granddaughter Christina Serrato of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and devoted dogs, Mr. D and Toby.
Services will be held at graveside with the family in attendance at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to his favorite charity, St Jude’s Hospital.
