Mary Ann Dunbar, a beloved mother, devoted wife, and cherished friend, passed away on August 28, 2025, at the age of 86 in Lakeland, Florida. Born on March 6, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, Mary was the daughter of Mary Ann Maloney. On December 31, 1954, she married the love of her life, Ulric “Rick” SJ Dunbar. Their marriage was a true testament to love and commitment, spanning more than five decades and shaping a beautiful family together.

Mary is survived by her three sons: Rick Dunbar (and his wife Marilyn), Steve Dunbar (and his wife Janell) and Ken Dunbar. She is also survived by five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her endless joy and pride. In 1963, Mary and her family made Lakeland their home. For 15 years, she served as a school crossing guard with the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, faithfully ensuring the safety of children on their way to and from school. Her warmth, vigilance, and friendly presence made her a beloved figure in the community. Her dedication to service extended beyond her work as a crossing guard. Mary volunteered for 10 years with the Lakeland Regional Hospital “Pink Ladies,” working in the ER to provide comfort and care to patients and their families during difficult times. In 1978, Mary and Rick moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where she worked in retail for a decade. Her kindness and cheerful spirit left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike. Later, in 1986, they moved to Georgetown, South Carolina, before returning home to Lakeland in 1995. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Rick, in 2011. Together, they shared a lifetime of love and companionship. Above all, Mary’s greatest joy was her family.
