Lewis Edward McQueen, 93, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021.
Ed (Hoss) was born on January 15, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida, and was a resident of Lakeland, Florida since 1963.
In 1946, he graduated from Robert E. Lee high school in Jacksonville, where he starred in basketball, football and baseball. He served in the United States Army as a topography specialist and then went on to attend Jacksonville University. He was transferred to Lakeland in 1963 with Interstate Securities Inc., a financial lending company, and remained in the finance business for the remainder of his career.
He was Vice President of the Dixieland Lions Club and received an award from Lakeland Regional Medical Center for completion of 10,000 hours of voluntary service. He also volunteered each year for the annual state basketball, volleyball, and wrestling tournaments at the Lakeland Center.
He is predeceased by his mother, father, two brothers, first wife, Jackie, and grandson, Tyler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Penny, and his children Sharon Flynn (Don), Sandra Altenburger (Mark), Tommy McQueen, Bobby McQueen (Debbie), Debbie McQueen, and Randy McQueen. He is also survived by his grandchildren Blake McQueen (Michelle), Ryan McQueen (Darlene), Felicia Visser (Andre), Donna Shore (Jason), Eric Flynn (Ali), Kelly Flynn, Leslie Grayson (Robert), Bryan McQueen (Eva), and Anna McQueen. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren and his dog, Toolie.
Ed and Penny enjoyed their summer home in Mt. Mitchell, NC for nine years before touring the country for several years in their RV. Ed was also an avid golfer, who spent many weekends at the Cleveland Heights Golf Course and at the Mt. Mitchell Golf Club.
