John Lee Flanigan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, at the age of 90, in Lakeland, Florida. Born on September 19, 1935, in Warren, Ohio, John lived a life rich in love, adventure, and dedication to his family and community.

John was the son of Edward and Grace Flanigan and grew up surrounded by the warmth of a loving family, which laid the foundation for the caring man he would become. He was preceded in death by his parents, his cherished daughter, Valerie, and two sisters and two brothers.  Despite the heartache of these losses, John’s spirit remained unbroken, and he continued to spread love and kindness to those around him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley Flanigan, who was his partner in life and adventure. Two daughters, Johnna and Nadine (Craig); six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Karen and Linda. John cherished every moment spent with his family, always bringing laughter and joy into their lives.

John was an avid outdoorsman whose passions included fishing, hunting, and birdwatching. He traveled across the United States with Shirley in their camper, visiting all 50 states, and even ventured into Canada. His love for nature was matched only by his dedication to family, often bringing them along on his adventures and instilling in them the same appreciation for the great outdoors.

Professionally, John made a name for himself as a vending machine mechanic, where he owned his own business. His work ethic was admirable, and he took pride in providing quality service and reliability to his clients. After serving in the Air Force from 1954 to 1958, John carried with him the values of discipline and commitment, which he applied in every aspect of his life.

John was also a valued member of the Calvary Baptist Church community, where he found joy in the fellowship of others and a special fondness for being around babies. His love for family extended to his church family, where he played an active role and became a source of support and kindness to many.

As we remember John Lee Flanigan, we celebrate a man who loved deeply, lived fully, and left an indelible mark on all who knew him. A funeral service with Air Force Military Honors will be held on December 16, 2025, at 12:30 PM at the Florida National Cemetery. John’s legacy of love, adventure, and family will continue to inspire us all. He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
