Born in Peru, Hilda moved to Lakeland, Florida, in 1961, where she built a meaningful life devoted to her family, faith, and community. A passionate educator, she devoted many years to teaching others the power of language and communication. Hilda taught Spanish at the YMCA and through private lessons, inspiring many students across generations. She also served as an ESOL teacher for Polk County Schools, where she helped children and adults from immigrant families learn English and find confidence in their new community.
Beyond her teaching vocation, Hilda also operated her own small business, embodying resilience, dedication, and an entrepreneurial spirit. Her warmth, generosity, and perseverance were known to all who crossed her path.
Hilda’s deep Catholic faith was central to her life. She held a profound devotion to El Señor de los Milagros, the cherished Peruvian devotion to Christ, and to Our Lady, whom she honored with steadfast love and prayer throughout her life.
She is survived by her two sons, Marty and Fernando Perez, and six cherished grandchildren. The family extends special gratitude to Fernando, who cared for his mother with great devotion during her final years.
