Glenn Halkey Mackal

April 6, 1940 - July 1, 2026

Glenn Halkey Mackal entered eternal life on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. His spirit is carried on by his three children, six grandchildren, one sibling, and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life.

Glenn embraced life more fully than most people dare to. He was, first and foremost, an inventor. For decades, he designed marine, medical, and safety valves and built a career doing what he loved most—solving problems and imagining what was possible. His curiosity knew few bounds. He never stopped learning, asking questions, or seeking new experiences. Whether sailing unfamiliar waters, traveling the world, or sharing stories and ideas with those around him, Glenn approached life with enthusiasm, resilience, and wonder.

More than anything, Glenn taught by example that life is meant to be lived, not merely observed. Challenges are to be faced. Curiosity is to be pursued. Possibilities are worth exploring. Kindness matters. His greatest legacy is not the things he built, but the way he lived and the values he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

For all that Glenn experienced and accomplished, he carried one regret in his heart: the loss of his beloved first wife, Joan, who predeceased him. It brings his family great comfort to know that regret is now reconciled and that, at long last, he is home with her once again.

He is survived by family who loved him: Melissa Mackal (husband Robert Wallander, children Raine and Henry), Susan Haveard (husband Tyler Haveard, children Aven, Cayleb, Nevaeh, and Asher), April Veronica Howard; sibling Arlene Johnson and nephews Denny Johnson and Matthew Johnson; and friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten.
