Born on June 8, 1950, in the quaint town of Bartow, Florida, Gary was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Ruth Knight. His life was a tapestry woven with love, honor, and dedication, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to have known him. Gary was a true patriot, dedicating his early years to serving his country with honor and bravery in the United States Army. He completed two terms of service, embodying the values of loyalty and courage that would become the cornerstones of his character. His military service was a testament to his unwavering dedication and love for his country, a legacy of valor that he carried with pride throughout his life. Following his honorable discharge, Gary embarked on a career in advertising, where he played an instrumental role in transforming the cityscape of Lakeland, Florida. His expertise and creativity in placing billboards brought vibrancy and flair to the city, leaving a lasting impression on the local community. His colleagues remember him as a visionary with an unparalleled work ethic, whose contributions to the industry were both innovative and impactful. Gary had an insatiable passion for all things remote-controlled, from cars to helicopters. This hobby brought him immense joy and served as a bridge to connect with his family, sharing countless hours of laughter and adventure with his children and grandchildren. His enthusiasm for RC vehicles was infectious, inspiring a shared hobby that created cherished memories and a legacy of joy and excitement. Though his beloved wife, Joyce Knight, preceded him in death, Gary’s heart remained full with the love of his surviving family. He is survived by his devoted children: Tracy Garton, Teri Caldwell and her husband Michael, and Gary Wayne Knight Jr. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren and a doting great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. Gary was predeceased by his grandson, Cole Raymond Knight, and granddaughter, Linlin Nichole Caldwell, whose memories he cherished deeply. Gary was a man of integrity and warmth, whose gentle spirit and unwavering kindness touched the lives of all who knew him. His legacy of love and dedication lives on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever remember him as a guiding light and a source of inspiration. A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share stories of the remarkable man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gary’s name to a veterans’ organization of your choice, in recognition of his service and commitment to his country. Gary Wayne Knight Sr. leaves behind a legacy of love, honor, and warmth. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
