It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Caldwell, a beloved father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on January 23, 2026, at the age of 74. Douglas was born on July 1, 1951, in Laager, Tennessee, to Luther Franklin and Veola Katheline Caldwell. Douglas was a true gentleman, known for his quiet demeanor and no-nonsense approach to life. He dedicated himself to his family and work, embodying the qualities of hard work and integrity. A man of many talents, Douglas found joy in various hobbies including wood carving, birdwatching, painting, and fishing. These passions reflected his appreciation for nature and the beauty of the world around him.

His career was diverse; he worked as a harvest laborer and phosphate miner, eventually becoming a crew leader in a peanut field. His work ethic and dedication never went unnoticed, earning him the respect of those who worked alongside him.

In 1973, Douglas found love with Connie Verlagas. Their union was a beautiful testament to commitment and partnership, with their marriage in 1984 in Bartow, Florida. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with the love and laughter of their children. Douglas is survived by his devoted wife Connie, his son Howard Caldwell (Brandi), and his three daughters: Julia Gray (Brandyn), Angela Lopez (Martin), and Jessica Rabago (Kelly). He was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, a role he cherished deeply.

Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister, Rebecca Ruth Caldwell, as well as four brothers: Victor, David, Wesley, and Jimmy Caldwell. He is survived by two brothers, Johnny and Wayne Caldwell, and six sisters: Carolyn Nunley, Reida Turner (Katie), Norma Kilgore, Connie Dill (Randall), Mary Vandergriff (Larry), and Renee Caldwell.

As a member of the Methodist community, Douglas’s faith was a great part of his life. He was known for his generosity and kindness, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
