It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harold F. Burness, who left this world peacefully on September 8, 2025, at the age of 105. Harold was born on September 4, 1920, in Camden, New Jersey, to Harold and Bertha Burness. He lived a remarkable life filled with dedication, love, and resilience. Harold’s early years were shaped by the values instilled by his parents, which he carried throughout his life. His legacy as a father and a man of integrity is a testament to his character. Harold was a loving and devoted father to his four children: Mike, Betty, Susan, and Robert. He took immense pride in his family, and his warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on their lives. Harold also cherished his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren and a great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren, who adored him. His professional journey began with the Pennsylvania Railroad, where he dedicated 40 years of his life, retiring in December 1981. Harold exemplified hard work and commitment, traits that his family admired deeply. Alongside his career, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and was on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. His bravery and service to his nation are a proud part of his legacy. Harold’s life was not just about work and duty; he was also a man of interests and passions. He loved bowling and often shared this joy with his family and friends. In addition, he took great pride in building the family home with the help of his loved ones—a project that brought them all together and created a cherished space filled with memories. Harold had a zest for life, and he and his beloved wife, Betty, enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, where they eventually moved for 20 years before moving to PA then settling in Florida with his wife. Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Burness, who was his partner in life and love. He was also preceded by his granddaughter, Terri, and great-granddaughters, Cassandra and Chelsea, who will be waiting to greet him on the other side. The void left by their departure is felt deeply by Harold’s family, who take comfort in the love and memories they shared. A man of remarkable kindness, Harold was a great example of what it meant to be a father and a friend. His gentle spirit and loving heart will be missed by all who knew him. Though he has left this earthly realm, his legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire his family for generations to come. Rest in peace, Harold F. Burness. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of your family and friends.
