So sorry to hear about your passing Doug! You took me under your wing at Big D Supermarkets for awhile, and made me a better person. The times we spent together golfing in holliston were so much fun. Driving around in your orange bmw with radio blaring, and meeting Bernadette at the house for supper. Will never forget how calm and patient you were and appreciate all that you did for me. Heaven has gained another angel!

I was unbelievably upset when I heard the news about Doug. While we haven´t spent a lot of time together more recently, mostly because life things got in the way, there were times over the years that we did spend together that I will not forget. Mostly around holidays both in Bayonne and New Hampshire. We would drive to The Boardman home in New Hampshire for several years in a row, with my in-laws and family and from the minute we got there till the time we left we laughed and laughed. It is certain that there are several experiences I will never forget, some about sports, some about family, some about life. While we can´t get to experience these things again, I will never forget them. Will miss you, my friend.

Uncle Doug was always ready to talk about anything, from sports to travel he was happy to share his knowledge on any subject. I will miss visiting him when down in Florida, and one day will run the PEI Marathon like we spoke about so many times.

I´ll never forget my sister telling us about this man Doug she met at the grocery store they both would work at. Bernadette was always somewhat of a surprise person, so this was a surprise. Turned out this surprise was true love and they married. Me and my sisters travelled that winter day for the wedding and sang their blessings. Doug was definitely a true match for Bernie. He was definitely her calm during hectic times. I remember a Thanksgiving when the girls were out shopping and the guys were home in New Hampshire watching the games and getting hungry. They tried to make turkey sandwiches but Doug cautioned that Bernie would know if the leftovers were touched. They ate anyway. He could take it. I have to say that I have never seen two people who complimented each other, adored each other, cared for each other, and would do anything for each other, than Doug and Bernie. Doug is the person I´m so glad and honored to have as a brother in law, even if I never told him that. I´ll miss you more than you know.

I met Doug & Bernadette 15 years ago in a welcome to PEI gathering in our new home down the road from their house. In these 15 years, Doug was always kind, gentle, funny, caring, adventurous, and full of smarts - about money, places in the world , word and number games, good food eating spots (Amish buffets in Florida!), interesting films, and the perfect joke for any occasion. He and Bernadette were always there for me, even when my communication was pretty spotty with them. Doug talked to everyone! I am in awe as to how many places in this world that he & Bernie visited and truly explored. I will always treasure his laughter at a joke I sent him a few weeks before he died that I kinda messed up in the telling(unknowingly!) and he pointed out the correct "answer" laughing all the way. I am so pleased to hear and feel that he was able to let in all the love we felt for him and the love he had for us all. XO!!!

Bob and Doug worked together at the Lakeland Center and we soon became good friends with him and Bernie. Doug was always full of great information, loved talking to him! They were our “Harry’s” friends, sharing many meals together there. He will be greatly missed, not only by us, but by everyone who was fortunate to know him.

Doug was a great brother-in-law who was always ready to lend a hand. A passion for golfing, I'm sure Doug is golfing with the angels! I will always remember his jokes and his bright smile. May you rest in peace, Doug, for you will always be in our hearts and never forgotten!

The King of Brother-in-Laws. Doug fit right in with our family and added his patience, New England humor, and calm balance to it. I'll especially miss our phone chats. Our last one was the day before he died. He was moved to tears by the outpouring of love he was receiving from friends and family. He joked and even sang a bit with Bernadette. He left this world with amazing grace and acceptance. I consider it a gift to have known him.

I met Doug in 2011 in the Mas Verde golf group and became good golfing buddies until his passing. We enjoyed traveling to different courses from Tampa to Orlando and always ended with dinner. Doug was an unbelievable chipper with his 9 iron and often winning the match with a chip in. Doug and Bernie would have been the perfect guides if we could have scheduled the trip to PEI.. It was truly fascinating listening to the stories and travels of places they have been. We will miss our dinners with Doug, but Bernie is always welcome to join us when we go out. Doug, we miss you.

When I think of Uncle Doug, I think most of how he supported all of my passions. I remember him giving me dollars and coins after I got my first big-kid wallet I was so excited about. When I was obsessed with Anne of Green Gables, he watched my living room performance(s). In passing I mentioned the beautiful copy of Pride and Prejudice he had at home, my favorite book. He gifted it to me. When the world got hard to ignore, we talked about policies and politics. His encouragement to dive into the things that interest me helped make me who I am. Until we meet again 💗

I have known Doug and Bernadette since 1986 when I happened upon Alpen Pantry looking for part time work. That initial meeting turned into a 39 year friendship. Doug and Bernie complimented each other beautifully. Doug was a quiet, laidback, generous and kind man with a good heart. He appreciated a good joke and story. His sense of adventure sent them all over the world to explore new states and countries. I am so blessed to have spent time with them both in PEI last fall and that again was do to their generosity. I can still hear Doug describe something in his most beautiful Boston accent as “it was Wicked good”. And that my friend is the best way to describe your life here on earth. You showed us all how to live and you will definitely be missed.

I first met Doug in 2008 and he welcomed me into the family with a warm heart and sincere friendship. He had a great sense of humour and a wide knowledge of the many countries he had visited throughout his life. I am very sad to see him go. God rest his dear soul.

Bernadette, I’m so sorry for your loss. Doug was a beautiful soul, so kind. A true gentleman. There aren’t many like him anymore. You were great neighbors and loved our lunches out. My prayers are with you. All my love, Diane

I was very blessed to have Uncle Doug as an Uncle. You could always tell he cared very deeply about his nieces and nephews, and he developed such a fantastic sense of humor with each of them. 'Half past a freckle!' is what he would always say when I asked him for the time, which would always, always get a giggle out of me. I am very saddened to hear of his passing - may he rest in eternal peace and always look down upon us.

Uncle Doug was truly one of a kind. When he found out I had a brand new Hyundai we spoke about and inspected it for nearly an hour. He was passionate about everything in his life and he will be sorely missed.

My uncle was patience personified. We never shared an unpleasant moment, whether it was driving through Lakeland talking about the birds, bickering about the Red Sox and Yankees, or enjoying a sweet treat at the Strawberry Festival. He will be deeply missed, but I know whenever I hear a Boston accent or pass by a beautifully manicured golf course he’ll be right there beside me with a smile.

It was with profound sadness that Kathy and I learned of Doug's tee off with the angles. Ever the optimist, ever the quiet one and ever the kind soul. This is the Doug that we knew and admired and will sorely miss. We're so thankful that Doug and Bernadette visited us while we were in Portugal and that we were able to visit them several times in Prince Edward Island. Little did we know that last year's visit would be our last foursome. From golf, cribbage and Wizard, from Mas Verde to Prince Edward Island and Portugal, memories of being with Doug and Bernadette over these past twenty years will remain with us for the rest of our days. In conclusion, Doug was one of the "Good Guys", a guy who truly was a very good friend and Kathy and I are better for having known him. RIP Dear Friend! Doug was a quiet man, with a wealth of knowledge and was always a joy to talk to.. For years, he and Bernie asked me to visit with them on PEI, finally last year I took them up on their offer. I was welcomed like a sister by both Doug and Bernie. Doug and I had many good card games and words with friends. I must say he did kick my butt at words with friends. Pretty much every day I’d hop in the car and drive around with Doug and he would be my tour guide showing me the local sites there on PEI all the while laughing and “remembering when”. We had many conversations about music, golf and whatever topic was brought up. I would have never thought that a year later our talks laughs and games would be over. You were lucky Bernie he was a good man and he loved you. Doug, God Bless you’re missed by many

I have known Doug for 45 years, starting at Star market in Cambridge. Doug was very creative and thought everything thru. Doug and Bernie lived in Hopkinton mass with us and babysat for our children. We stayed in touch when they moved to New Hampshire and visited them there and at the Burlington mall where they had their business. Doug cooked a few meals for us and they showed great talent. Doug was a great husband to Bernie and will be missed

This is very sad news hearing of Doug’s passing. I’m so sorry Bernie. You two had some amazing adventures. The memories I recall of the times we shared at your house in Hopkinton and your townhouse in NH were always so much fun. I loved how my daughters called you Dernie & Bug. Again I’m so sorry for your loss. Doug was a good man❤️ Lois

So Sorry & Sad to hear of Doug’s passing . I have great memories of Doug and Bernie showing them homes & finding the one that they chose in Lantern Hill , North Rustico, PEI 20 years ago. He was the first guy that convinced me to take up Golf & we made lots of memories playing several games every summer for the past 16-20 yrs. We also had some movie nights and Dinners together with Doug, Bernie , which we will treasure forever. I can truly say Doug always had an amazing demeanour & a great sense of humour. I will miss him coming to PEI for the 6 months every summer & look forward to meeting him on the other side some day. RIP my Friend!!!

We are so blessed to have known Doug both on PEI and at their home in Florida. Doug was not only a co-worker on the golf course on PEI but also a golfing partner and a great friend. I can't count the number of times he humiliated me with that rustic old wooden handled putter on the greens. We will always remember him with love and admiration. God bless my friend. Sending love to Bernadette and all friends and family. Sandy and Gloria

I did not know Doug but it sounds like he had a successful and happy life with Bernadette. He was part of a great church, too, and I will contribute to it a tribute to Doug's character and approach to adversity. Love, Paul
