Justin Avery Slaton, 22, of Lakeland, died on November 13, 2020, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 1, 1998 to Denise Gulizia of Lakeland.  He graduated from George Jenkins High School in 2017, where he played JV and Varsity football, as well as track and field where he excelled as a triple jumper.  He went on to join the Army in 2018 and spent the last couple of years in Oklahoma, Washington State and California before moving back to Lakeland a few weeks ago.

Justin cared for others more than he did himself and placed family over everything. He was such a creature of habit that you always knew where you could find him; either in a tattoo shop, football field, basketball court, gym, or in front of the TV playing video games. Justin was known for his contagious laugh, his bright personality, quick wit, and his honest opinions. It is easy to say these words can sum him up but there was so much more to him than just that. He will be sadly missed by his heartbroken family, relatives, and friends.

Justin was preceded in death by his grandma, Wanda Bruno. He is survived by his mom Denise Gulizia of Lakeland; his brother Sean Slaton, currently stationed in Hawaii; his aunt Jen Wilson (Jon); his cousin Taylor Novak, also of Lakeland; his uncle Scott Gulizia of Palm Coast; and his uncle Johnny Gulizia of North Carolina. He also leaves his maternal grandparents John and Laura Gulizia of North Carolina and several other aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.

A celebration of life for Justin will be held with his family and close friends.
