    A Service Celebrating the Life of Donald Curtis Whalen, Jr., will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Gillette, 3301 97th St. E., Palmetto, FL 34221.

    Interment will follow at Gillette Cemetery, 8996 Ellenton Gillette Rd., Palmetto, FL 34221.

    A gathering of family and friends will follow the Service and Interment at The Woods Barn, 4730 17th St. E., Ellenton, FL 34222.

    Memorials in Don’s honor may be directed to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.

     Donald “Don” “Pop” Curtis Whalen, Jr., age 70, of Blairsville, GA passed away into the presence of Jesus on January 17th, 2021 at his home.
    He was born on November 3, 1950 in Paterson, NJ, a son to the late Donald and Elinor Whalen.
    Don most notably served with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years and retired as a Detective in 1990. In addition to his love for serving the community, Don drove a truck for 25 years alongside his wife, spanning all 48 contiguous states, and owned General Auction in Palmetto, FL and Bradenton, FL.
    Don met the love of his life, Lynn Webber, in 1981, and they enjoyed 39 years together. He was a member of the Manatee County Sheriff Mounted Posse, the Florida Jaycees, and served on the Florida JCI Senate. Don also enjoyed traveling, trains, shooting guns, cooking, caring for animals, and relaxing at his cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. However, he cherished time and moments with his children and grandchildren the most.
    Surviving are his wife, Lynn Whalen; three daughters; Donna Lynn (George) Lammlein of Palmetto, FL, Diane (Mike) Micochero of Bradenton, FL, and Donna (James) DeSantis of Sarasota, FL; two sons; Donald Whalen of Lakeland, FL and Leon Wilhoite of Bradenton, FL; and eleven grandchildren; Brandon Lammlein, Cindy (Josh) Emerick, Brittany Lammlein, Mitchell DeSantis, Michael Micochero, Mikayla DeSantis, Matthew DeSantis, Madison DeSantis, Madison Wilhoite, and Wyatt Wilhoite. In addition to his family, Don is also survived by close friends; Josh Curtis, Agustin Garcia, Gary Metzger, Terry Nipper, Eric Seidel, Greg Stout, and Robert Wagner. He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Arrangements are being made by Central Florida Casket Store & Funeral Chapel. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.
    Memorials in Don’s honor may be directed to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation and John Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
